Helpful questions about worms & starter kits

What are the best worms for composting?

Composting worms are the best choice for wormeries because they live and feed near the surface, process food waste efficiently and build up as the wormery settles.

How many composting worms do I need?

A starter kit is usually the simplest way to begin. Add food gradually at first, then increase feeding as the worm population settles and the wormery starts processing waste more quickly.

Can I put garden soil worms in a wormery?

Garden soil worms are not usually the right worms for a wormery. A wormery needs composting worms that naturally live in rich organic matter near the surface.
