Worm casts FAQ
What is 20L Worm Castings – Fresh UK Vermicompost?
20L Worm Castings – Fresh UK Vermicompost is a 20 litre bag of fresh UK worm castings from our Essex worm farm. The product page describes it as microbe-rich and notes that you may find the odd live worm or cocoon in the bag.
What is the price per litre?
Based on the current listed product price, this works out at £0.40 per litre. That makes it easier to compare like-for-like against other UK bag sizes.
How can I use worm castings in the garden?
Worm castings can be mixed into potting blends, worked into beds and borders, or used as a top dressing around established plants. The exact amount depends on what you are growing and the rest of your soil mix.
Are live worms or cocoons normal in the bag?
Yes. This product is sold as a fresh material and the short description explains that the odd live worm or cocoon may still be present, which can support ongoing soil life after application.
Is this the same as worm compost or vermicompost?
Gardeners often use worm cast, worm casts, worm castings and vermicompost interchangeably. This page focuses on fresh worm castings, and our guide at https://www.wormsdirectuk.co.uk/blog/worm-compost-and-worm-casts-is-there-any-difference/ explains the terminology in more detail.
20 L of premium UK worm castings – fresh every week from our Essex worm farm
Every seven days we sift and bag almost two thousand litres of living vermicompost, most of it into handy 20-litre bags. Because it is packed within days of harvest, it arrives brimming with vitality rather than sitting on a warehouse shelf. Our worms enjoy a carefully balanced diet and constant moisture management, even during heatwaves, so every handful you receive teems with beneficial microbes, trace minerals and slow-release nutrients.
● 100 % organic, peat-free vermicompost rich in N-P-K, calcium and soil-building bacteria
● Screen-sieved to three millimetres for a fine, easy-to-mix texture
● May contain juvenile worms or cocoons that continue conditioning your soil long after application
How to use
• Seeds and plugs Mix one part castings with four parts compost
• Containers & beds Top-dress with a one-centimetre layer every six weeks
• Liquid feed Steep 250 g in 10 L rain-water for 24 h, strain and water as normal
Because we stop screening at three millimetres, the occasional tiny worm or cocoon is a bonus rather than a blemish, it carries the soil-building process into your pots and borders, improving aeration and extending nutrient release. Fold a handful through seed compost, sprinkle around established plants or brew into a gentle tea. Whichever method you choose, you’ll see stronger roots, lusher foliage and better moisture retention, without resorting to synthetic fertilisers.
