greedy birds

An increasingly popular and necessary activity but sometimes its not always clear as to the best way to go about it, help is always at hand.

The morning feed during Mon-Fri that I provide is about 15-20 worms in a tin which is beneath a hanging basket mesh and taken by robins and blue tits, with a separate tin open for usual feeding by the local blackbirds.

At this time of year, during the weekend when at home, should I provide several more feeds for them?

They seem to queue up when they know we are in the house, but I don't want to overfeed them if they are just being greedy.

During the nesting season when they are clearly feeding chicks, I keep them topped up during the day, but don't want to make them un-necessarily reliant on the mealworms too early in the year if not recommended.
